Your Emergency Dentist in Victoria to Help Restore Your Smile

If you’ve suffered a tooth injury, don’t wait to contact your emergency dentist in Victoria here at Sherwood Family Dental! Acting quickly can mean saving your tooth. For example, if a knocked-out adult permanent tooth is put back in within 10 minutes, it has a good chance of recovering. However, if two hours have elapsed, the chance of a successful recovery is much lower. Fortunately, chipped or broken teeth can almost always be repaired.

Call us now at Sherwood Dental if you believe you are experiencing a dental emergency. We would be happy to offer our support. Meanwhile, we hope the following information will be useful.

Knocked Out Teeth

If your tooth gets knocked out:

  • Pick the tooth up by the chewing surface, NOT the root
  • Put it back in its socket and hold it there
  • If it’s not clean, only rinse it gently; do not scrub it or use soap
  • If you’re scared of accidentally swallowing it, contain the tooth in milk
  • Don’t wrap the tooth in tissue or cloth

Carrying the tooth with you, go to your nearest available dentist as soon as possible. If you’re treated within ten minutes, there’s a good chance your tooth will be saved.

Other Scenarios

Here you can find more information about what to do in various emergency situations:

  • Chipped/broken tooth – these can usually be saved, so call us immediately. We may treat the break with fillings, crowns, or a root canal, depending on the severity of the damage.
  • Toothache/pain – please call us and explain your symptoms. You can use an over-the-counter pain relief medication that works for you. Don’t put the pill onto the sore tooth, however, and don’t use heat to relieve pain – use an ice pack instead.
  • Lost fillings – you can protect the affected area temporarily with a soft piece of sugarless chewing gum, but do see a dentist as soon as possible.

Have questions? Please don’t hesitate to call us.

Restorative Dentistry

At Sherwood Family Dental, we offer a variety of restorative dental treatments to keep you smiling. These include:

  • Bridges and crowns
  • Fillings
  • Implants
  • Root canals

Dental Implants
A very common restorative technique, a dental implant is an artificial root that a replacement tooth can be melded onto. Dental implants can yield aesthetic benefits, as well as support ease of speech.

Root Canal
Root canals are a common solution to infected pulp (the nerves and blood vessels within the tooth’s root canal system that help nurture it). In this procedure, infected pulp is removed and the inside of your tooth is cleaned and disinfected before being sealed.

Porcelain Fixed Bridges
These are strong devices that consist of replacement teeth fused to metal. They work to fill any gaps caused by one or multiple missing teeth.

Whether you’ve lost your tooth to decay, injury, or any other reason, modern restorative treatments can help get your smile back! Contact us today to discuss your options with an initial consultation. If you believe your situation is an emergency, please call. Sherwood Family Dental is proud to serve as your emergency dentist in Victoria.
