About the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP): Helping Canadians Access Affordable Dental Care
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal government program designed to make dental care more affordable for Canadians who do not have private dental insurance and meet specific income requirements. The program covers a broad range of dental services, making it easier for individuals and families to maintain good oral health.
Who Can Apply?

You may be eligible to apply for the CDCP if you meet the following criteria:

-
You do not have private dental insurance.
-
You have an adjusted family net income of less than $90,000.
-
You are a Canadian resident and have filed your tax return.

Eligibility is determined by the Government of Canada. If you’re not sure if you qualify, visit canada.ca/dental for more information or contact our team—we can help guide you.
What Dental Services Are Covered?

CDCP coverage includes many common dental services to help Canadians maintain their oral health. Covered services include:

-
Examinations (routine and comprehensive)
-
Preventive care (cleanings, scaling, polishing, fluoride treatments)
-
X-rays
-
Fillings
-
Root canals
-
Extractions
-
Dentures (partial and complete) [partial starting Nov-2025]
-
Other necessary treatments to maintain oral health

Some services may require preauthorization. Our team can help you navigate what is covered and assist with any paperwork if needed.
What Will You Pay Under the CDCP? Affordable Dental Care That Fits Your Budget
Understanding what you’ll pay under the CDCP is an important part of planning your dental care. The program is designed to reduce financial barriers to dental treatment, but the amount you pay will depend on your household income and the type of care you receive. Here’s what you need to know:

-
Households earning less than $70,000: You may pay no co-payment or a minimal fee.
-
Households earning between $70,000 and $89,999: A co-payment will apply on a sliding scale (up to 60%).

Please note that you may be responsible for any costs that exceed the established CDCP fee schedule. Our team will provide a cost estimate before your treatment so there are no surprises.

Please note: For patients using the CDCP, Sherwood Family Dental charges a $50 annual administration fee to help cover the additional documentation required by the program. CDCP claims often require extra documents such as notes, X-rays, and preauthorizations, which add to the administrative workload.
While we assist with submitting insurance claims as a courtesy, it is the patient’s responsibility to understand their CDCP coverage and eligibility.
