Is It Time for A Smile Makeover?

Are you embarrassed by your teeth? Have you stopped smiling for photos? If so, it might be time to get a smile makeover. As dentists, we want our patients to smile as much as possible. You may think there’s nothing that can be done about your teeth, but a number of common dental problems that stop people from smiling are easy to fix. Here are four of them:

  1. Crooked or misaligned teeth. You might worry that fixing crooked teeth will mean that you’ll need to wear metal braces. However, this isn’t always the case. Many adults benefit from using Invisalign, a clear orthodontic device or “aligner” that can be used to correct the positioning of your teeth. At Sherwood Family Dental, we proudly offer Invisalign technology to all our Victoria patients wanting to correct crooked or misaligned teeth.

  2. Discolouration or stains. Many people don’t mind a little discolouration on their teeth, but if serious discolouration has got you down, beyond regular dental cleanings there are several things that can be done to correct it. Treatment possibilities range from simple whitening procedures to cosmetic methods to restore your teeth, like veneers, inlays or crowns. The best option for you will depend on the cause and severity of the discolouration, the condition of your teeth and your desired results.

  3. Missing teeth. It’s important to replace missing teeth so your other teeth don’t shift into the gap and become misaligned. Many people are afraid of needing dentures, but missing teeth can often be replaced with implants or bridges.

  4. Metal fillings. Nowadays, most fillings are done using composite materials that match the colour of your teeth. If you have visible metal fillings that are bothering you, you may want to consider having them replaced with composites.

If you suspect you have a more serious issue If you have loose teeth, tooth pain, sore or swollen gums, or a constant bad taste in your mouth, these can all be signs that you need to see a dentist. Serious dental problems can escalate quickly, so don’t hesitate to give us a call if you suspect something is wrong. Dental health isn’t all about how your teeth look. Healthy teeth are also an important part of your overall wellness. After all, smiling is about being happy, and you’re not happy when you’re in pain.
